Founded on February 7, 2017 in Mountain View, the same city as Google, 20km from Apple, 420 Friends is a dating app that matches people who love marijuana. 420 Friends is available for iOS on the App Store, and will be available for Android in Spring 2017.
The mission of 420 Friends is offering a judgement-free environment where cannabis lovers swipe or search to find like-minded cannabis enthusiasts nearby, share thoughts and photos, hold meaningful conversations, so to form friendships and/or relationships, or find hangouts and/or hookups.
420 Friends is co-founded by Jason Du, a Silicon Valley based tech entrepreneur who has been in the online dating business since 2001, and Chengying Wu, also named Abbie Wu, self-employed offline matchmaker and big fan of Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg.
Jason has co-founded many successful dating sites and apps in the past 16 years. While he sees a lot of daters put "420 friendly" in their bios, Abbie also has many clients who would like to be paired with someone who enjoys smoking weed like they do, or at least he/she is okay with their marijuana lifestyle. The two see a huge market that hasn't been catered and immediately decide to bring technology into marijuana dating.
Just like 420 Friends is a global cannabis community, the 420 Friends team is also a group of people from all around the world. While co-founder Abbie Wu is a Chinese woman, database engineer Pavel is from Brazil, iOS developer Richard is from Australia, Android developer Barry is from India, UI and graphic designer Alin is from Canada.
